American ccTLD registries

ccTLDs are underused in the Americas, where .COM is preferred. LACTLD (Latin American and Caribbean TLD Association) is a non-profit organization that brings together country code top-level domain (ccTLD) registries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Main American ccTLD Registries

.CA is managed by the Canadian organization CIRA (Canadian Internet Registration Authority). It is considered a global benchmark, in terms of efficiency, public interest, and the protection of web users and brands. ccTLDs are far less developed in the rest of the continent.

Run by Registry Services, LLC (GoDaddy Group), .US, remains marginal. In Latin America, the most popular ccTLDs are .BR, which NIC.br manages with strict rules, as well as .MX, .AR and .CL, respectively managed by NIC México, NIC Argentina and NIC Chile.
