Demi Getschko

Demi Getschko is a Brazilian computer scientist and a key figure in the development of the Internet in Brazil. He was part of the team that established the country's first Internet connection in 1991. Since 2006, he has served as CEO of NIC.br, the Brazilian Network Information Center, which manages the .br domain and oversees Brazil's Internet infrastructure. Getschko has been a member of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br) since its inception in 1995 and has contributed to Internet governance through roles in organizations like ICANN and the Internet Society.

Biography

Demi Getschko has been active in international networking since 1987 and was part of the team that established Brazil’s first Internet connection. He has served as the administrative contact for the .br ccTLD since 1989 and was instrumental in shaping Brazil’s DNS structure and registry rules. A founding member of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br) in 1995, he continues to serve on its board. He holds BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees in Electronic Engineering from the University of São Paulo.

Dr. Getschko was selected to the ICANN Board by the ccNSO in 2005 and reelected for a second term until 2009. Currently, he is Associate Professor of Computing Architecture at PUC-SP, Vice-President of the ISOC Brazilian Chapter, CEO of NIC.br, and a Board Member of CGI.br. In 2014, he was the first Brazilian inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in the "Global Connectors" category for his key role in bringing the Internet to Brazil.
