Currently President with .ID Registry PANDI, John Sihar Simanjuntak is an Indonesian expert in Internet governance and domain name policy. He has played a significant role in the development of Indonesia's domain name infrastructure, particularly through his involvement with the management and policy-making of the .ID country code top-level domain (ccTLD). As a prominent figure in the ICANN community, John has contributed to various discussions and working groups related to domain names and Internet governance. His expertise and leadership have made him an influential advocate for the growth and regulation of the domain name industry in Indonesia and the broader Asia-Pacific region
John Sihar Simanjuntak has been active in the internet industry since 1996 and currently serves as the Chairman of the Indonesia Domain Name Registry (PANDI). He co-founded PANDI in 2006 and was elected three times as its Executive Board/Director between 2011 and 2019. This year, he is co-leading a collaboration with ICANN to host the APAC DNS Forum 2024 in Bali. His primary focus lies in enhancing the domain name business and the broader internet industry.
In addition to his work with PANDI, he led the FTTH Division at a fiber optic operator, managing strategy, project implementation, national sales, and customer management in Indonesia. He also founded the Association of Indonesian Internet Service Providers (APJII) in 1996 and served as its Chairman from 1999. From 2003 to 2009, he chaired IDNIC, overseeing the distribution of IP addresses to ISP members, which now serves as a key income source for APJII.
