What is DENIC?

Denic

Founded in 1996, DENIC is a not-for-profit cooperative which manages the German country code .de on the Internet. DENIC unites around 300 companies from the IT and telecommunications sector in Germany and abroad. They provide Internet services related to .DE domains for customers and support the independent, self-regulatory approach of DENIC.

Particularities of DENIC

DENIC is a cooperative where registrars are the members and effective owners. They set policy and elect the governance bodies. Compared with many European registries, day to day state involvement is low.

Access is direct through membership and EPP. .de supports IDNs, DNSSEC and a global anycast DNS with near real time updates.

Key services include TRANSIT for domains without an active registrar and DISPUTE to hold a name during conflicts. WHOIS disclosure is controlled and there is no general local presence requirement.

Backend Registry Services

Denic Services is a backend registry provider that offer DNS, DNSSEC, Anycast and Data Escrow.

Domain Pulse

domain pulse

DomainPulse is an annual event for German-speaking registrars and domainers, organised in turn by DENIC, SWITCH and NIC.AT.
