Ionos (ex-1&1)
What is IONOS?
Part of the United Internet Group, IONOS is a German web hosting and cloud services provider. Founded in 1988 as 1&1, it rebranded to IONOS in 2018 after merging with cloud infrastructure company ProfitBricks.
The rebranding to Ionos was accompanied by a reduction in contentious commercial practices, for which 1&1 was notorious: billing for uncontracted offers that came out of nowhere, forced renewal of a domain name hosted with another registrar followed by threats from a collection agency, etc. The current interface is still not suitable for managing domain name portfolios: no on-the-fly DNS changes, no transfer of a domain name from one account to another (push), lack of email support, etc.
