Tucows

What is Tucows?

The Canadian firm Tucows Inc is one of the largest domain registrars in the world. It operates OpenSRS, Enom, Ascio, Hover and offers platforms for domain owners and resellers.

History of Tucows Group

Tucows was founded in 1993 in Flint, Michigan (United States) as a software downloads site, then it pivoted toward internet services and is now headquartered in Toronto, Ontario (Canada). After entering the domain registrar business around the end of the 1990s, it launched its OpenSRS wholesale platform in January 2000, which became a core part of its domains activity. It later expanded beyond domains with telecom services, notably launching Ting Mobile in 2012 and Ting Internet (fiber) in 2015; Ting Mobile was sold to Dish in 2020, while Tucows kept other operations. The original downloads business was ultimately retired in 2021, confirming the long-term shift from content distribution to domains and connectivity.
