François Flückiger

François Flückiger is a French engineer known for his key role in developing the Internet in Europe. At CERN, he led the networking group, turning it into the main Internet hub in Europe in the early 1990s. He succeeded Tim Berners-Lee in leading CERN’s web development team.

He helped create RIPE, Ebone, and the CCIRN, and directed CERN openlab from 2001 to 2011. He also lectured at the University of Geneva.

A member of the W3C, he was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2013.
