Identity Digital (ex-Donuts)

What is Identity Digital?

identity digital

Identity Digital is a US-based company created in 2010 by Paul Stahura, under the name Donuts. It became the largest registry for new domain extensions after acquiring Afilias in 2020. Afilias was managing extensions like .INFO, .PRO, .MOBI, .IO, and many others. Identity Digital controls over 260 TLDs, including relatively popular ones like .LIVE, .TODAY, and .LIFE, and also acts as the backend operator for many TLDs.

The company belongs to the investment fund Ethos Capital and follows a purely financial logic. This approach has raised concerns, especially since it involves former senior ICANN officials, blurring the line between public oversight and private interests.

Main Services of Identity Digital

The Domains Protected Marks List (DPML) is a domain blocking service launched by Identity Digital in 2013. It enables trademark holders to prevent the registration of their exact-match trademarks across over 300 top-level domains (TLDs) managed by Identity Digital.

Subsidiaries of Identity Digital

Identity Digital owns the registrar Name.com, acquired when Donuts (now Identity Digital) bought Rightside in 2017. Donuts then acquired Afilias in 2020 and rebranded as Identity Digital in 2022.
