DNS Tools and Solutions

DNS Infrastructure Tools

DNS infrastructure tools run the registry side of the domain system. They manage the registry database, talk to registrars over EPP, publish and sign zone files, and provide RDAP or WHOIS. Examples include FRED, CIRA Fury, CentralNic, and CoCCA for registry platforms.

Centralized Zone Data Service (CZDS): platform operated by ICANN that provides access to the zone files of many top-level domains (TLDs).

Operators add RDAP servers for public data, OpenDNSSEC with SoftHSM or hardware HSMs for DNSSEC signing and keys, and escrow providers such as DENIC for continuity.

DNS Utilities

DNS utilities help inspect, test, and troubleshoot DNS. They query records, lint zones, visualize delegations, and measure performance.

DNS Resolvers

DNS resolvers answer client lookups by performing recursion and caching. They can validate DNSSEC, apply policies, and export metrics.

Authoritative DNS

Authoritative DNS serves zones to the internet with final answers. It handles primary and secondary roles, AXFR and IXFR transfers, NOTIFY, dynamic updates, and DNSSEC-signed zones.

IP Addressing and Resources

IP addressing and resources tools help plan, acquire, and govern IP space. They support subnet design and IPAM, RIR and WHOIS lookups, ASN and routing data, RPKI validation, reputation and geolocation checks, and marketplaces for allocation and leasing.
