DNS Security Tools

What are DNS Security Tools?

There are 3 core types of DNS Security Tools:

  • Secure DNS resolvers, that resolve domain names into IP addresses and offer encryption (DoH, DoT) to protect DNS queries from spying and tampering.
  • DNS Security Platforms, that analyze, monitor, and enforce security at the DNS layer
  • DNSSEC Management Tools sign, validate, and test DNS records

DNS Security Platforms

DNS Security Platforms like Infoblox, BlueCat, or Farsight DNSDB analyze, monitor, and enforce security at the DNS layer (e.g. through visibility, threat intelligence, or policy enforcement).

DNS Security tools are solutions designed to protect, monitor, and control DNS traffic. They block access to malicious domains, prevent DNS-based attacks like spoofing or hijacking, encrypt DNS queries to ensure privacy, and detect abnormal DNS behavior that could signal cyber threats. Their main purpose is to secure the domain name resolution process, which is critical for safe internet access and overall network security.

DNS Firewall & Filtering: blocking malicious or unwanted domains.

DNS Abuse Detection: identifying phishing, typosquatting, and botnets.

DNS Anomaly Monitoring: detecting unusual query patterns or traffic spikes.
