The ASCII standard, short for American Standard Code for Information Interchange, is a character encoding. ASCII characters are the letters of the traditional Latin alphabet without accents. ASCII domain names are contrasted with IDNs, which are accented domain names and can also use characters from many non-Latin scripts.
