HostGator is an American company founded in 2002 by Brent Oxley, and now part of the Newfold Digital (formerly Endurance group). It is one of the world's leading Internet hosting companies. The site offers a wide range of shared and dedicated servers and associated services: domain name hosting, affiliation, etc.
HostGator's domain names registration is managed by its subsidiary Launchpad.
Just as its sister company Bluehost, Hostgator used to be a decent web host, with large functionalities and competitive prices, but it became inefficient and expensive after its purchase from Newfold Digital. The online reviews are very often positive because the group has a strong affiliation program and purchase sponsored articles.
