Domain name parking is the practice of registering a domain name without associating an active website with it. This domain can be used to display a message or advertisement.
Most registrars use domain parking to take advantage of the visibility of domain names not used by their customers.
Domainers, on the other hand, use it to make a profit from the domain names, thanks to the clicks that visitors make on the advertisements.
Very substantial until around 2010, the parking pages revenues have gradually declined to become almost insignificant in most cases today. The same is true of services for collecting emails or data, which are in practice reserved for holders of domain names with high natural or black hat traffic.
Most parking pages companies have disappeared or been bought out. Less than ten specialist services are still active including Sedo, ParkingCrew (Team Internet), Godaddy CashParking, Afternic Parking and Bodis.
The leading solutions on the market are offered by Sedo, Bodis and ParkingCrew. Afternic Parking offers less revenues.
Godaddy CashParking is a pay-as-you-go solution, only for domain names hosted by Godaddy.
A large number of players (Voodoo.com, ProtectedParking, DomainPower...) disappeared from the market in the years 2015-2020, due to the collapse of revenues and the loss of visibility of parking pages in Google and other search engines.
Secondary solutions include ParkLogic, DomainActive, Premium Traffic LTD and StakeWeb
Web traffic can be monetized through many types of services like affiliate links, paid redirections, display ads, sponsored posts, push notifications, or CPA offers. These solutions fit well website traffic but not domain traffic, which is generally insufficient in terms of quality and quantity.
