Patrik Fältström is the Head of Research and Development at Netnod and has a long career in Internet technologies and governance. He previously worked as a distinguished engineer at Cisco, technical specialist at Tele2, systems manager at the Royal Institute of Technology, researcher at Bunyip Information Systems, and programmer for the Royal Swedish Navy. Active in UNIX systems since 1985 and DNS since 1987, he has contributed to Internet standardization efforts globally since 1989. Fältström helped develop standards for Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) and ENUM within the IETF and served as an Applications Area Director and a member of the Internet Architecture Board.
He has also been deeply involved in Internet governance, participating in early gTLD policy discussions, helping establish the Internet Governance Forum, and advising the Swedish IT Minister since 2003. Within ICANN, he has been a member of the Security and Stability Advisory Committee since 2005 and its chair since 2011. Over the years, he has contributed to numerous advisory groups for both the public and private sectors, including work with ICANN, Packet Clearing House, and the European Commission.
