Lars-Johan Liman

Lars-Johan Liman is a Senior Systems Specialist at Netnod Internet Exchange in Stockholm, Sweden, where he serves as the technical lead for i.root-servers.net, one of the Internet's 13 DNS root name servers. He is also co-chair of ICANN's Root Server System Advisory Committee (RSSAC).

He holds a Master of Science in Engineering Sciences, with a focus on Applied Physics, from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. From 1992 to 2000, he worked at the network operations center serving SUNET (Sweden's academic network), NORDUnet (the joint academic network for the Nordic countries), and Ebone (a former pan-European backbone).

Liman joined Autonomica (a Netnod subsidiary) in 2000, which was later merged into Netnod in 2010. His work has long centered on the Domain Name System (DNS), where he has held key technical and governance roles. In addition to overseeing i.root-servers.net, he is a member of the ICANN Registry Services Technical Evaluation Panel (RSTEP), the IETF DNS Directorate, and contributes to the design and management of DNS infrastructures for numerous TLDs.

His past roles include chairing the IETF DNSOP Working Group, serving on ICANN’s Nominating Committee, and participating in the gTLD-MoU Policy Oversight Committee during ICANN’s formation. He also runs a consulting firm, Cafax, through which he provides DNS training and advisory services.
