Created in 2011, Africa IGF is Africa’s regional Internet Governance Forum, a recognized multistakeholder process within the global IGF ecosystem. It was created in 2011 to give the continent a common space to discuss Internet and digital policy. Its mission is to convene inclusive dialogue, build capacity, and channel Africa’s priorities into national, regional, and global debates. It is open to all stakeholders, runs an annual continental meeting, and connects a network of national and sub-regional IGFs.
It operates with support linked to African Union and UN regional institutions, and it issues non-binding messages and recommendations. Its leadership is provided by a multistakeholder advisory group and a small secretariat that coordinates the process year-round.
