What is NameBase?

Namebase is a U.S.-based company founded in 2018 by Tieshun Roquerre and Anthony Liu. It was created to simplify access to the Handshake blockchain, a decentralized protocol for owning and managing top-level domains (TLDs) without central authorities. Namebase acts as both a registrar and a marketplace, enabling users to buy, sell, and manage Handshake TLDs directly through an intuitive web interface.

The platform abstracts the technical complexity of Handshake, allowing users to participate in the protocol’s on-chain auctions, manage domain settings, and integrate with existing DNS systems. Unlike traditional domain registrars, Namebase provides access to the root namespace itself, meaning users can own TLDs, not just subdomains.
