Manal Ismail is Chair of ICANN’s Governmental Advisory Committee, where she represents governments in global domain name policy. She also leads international coordination at Egypt’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA).
Manal Ismail was awarded the ICANN Community Excellence Award at the ICANN79 Welcome Ceremony in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on 4 March 2024. Recognized for her dedication to ICANN's multistakeholder model, she has represented Egypt in the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) since 2002 and served as GAC chair from 2017 to 2023. Manal Ismail contributed to key initiatives such as the IANA Stewardship Transition Coordination Group and the first Accountability and Transparency Review Team. She has also been involved in the ccNSO Policy Development Process for Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) and worked with ICANN's Arabic script IDN group. Her ability to work across cultures and backgrounds was also praised by the selection panel.
