The Internet Research Task Force is an international group focused on long-term research related to Internet protocols, architecture, and technology. It operates alongside the IETF but with a more exploratory and academic approach. The IRTF is also under the umbrella of the Internet Society and is overseen by the Internet Architecture Board. Its work is organized into research groups that study emerging or foundational topics, without the pressure to produce immediate standards.
