FIO Protocol is a decentralized identity project launched in 2020 by the Foundation for Interwallet Operability, based in the United States.
FIO Protocol runs on its own dedicated blockchain, a Layer-1 chain with validators and its own native token (FIO), designed to handle human-readable crypto addresses and payment request functions.
It allows users to create a single, human-readable FIO address (like jane@wallet) that links to all their crypto wallets. Unlike blockchain domain systems like ENS or Unstoppable Domains, FIO focuses on simplifying crypto transactions across wallets, exchanges, and services, rather than naming websites or hosting identities.
